Anti-sinuous: A Modern and Minimalist Residential House

Unfolding Complexity and Versatility in Limited Space

Inspired by the subconscious and basic needs of humans, Hsin Ting Weng designed Anti-sinuous as a personal living shelter that embraces nature, modernity, and simplicity. This residential house aims to create a friendly and tranquil environment by playing with natural and approachable furnishing materials.

In a small space of 86 square meters, Anti-sinuous stands out with its sinuous and irregular plan. However, behind this unconventional design lies a pragmatic and multi-functional site plan. By boldly breaking down most partition walls, the living and dining areas are seamlessly connected, creating a spacious sensation and promoting public interaction. The master bedroom, with its elegant sanitary area, is a tranquil retreat that embodies harmony and coexistence between living and housing.

The design philosophy of Anti-sinuous revolves around the concept of "less is more." The use of minimal construction materials allows the natural surroundings to shine through, while open lighting and ventilation enhance the sense of spaciousness. The combination of white spray paint and glossy lacquer creates subtle layers of depth, while neutral grey plaster finishing elegantly complements the composed existence of the furniture. A wide solid wood table serves as a bridge between daily living and the kitchen workplace.

Anti-sinuous spans 86 square meters and is located in Taichung City, Taiwan. The project aimed to create a wide, open-concept space, and extensive research was conducted on the rearrangement of wall partitions and the role of shelvings and hidden doors. The narrow and sinuous site plan posed a creative and technical challenge, but through innovative design, the boundaries between living and dining areas were discarded, while the essential functions of the sanitary area and bedrooms were maintained.

The interior design of Anti-sinuous reflects the complexity of human coexistence in the modern world, primitive housing, and the natural environment. By providing spacious accommodation, easing nerves, and expanding visions, this residential house creates a harmonious balance between irregular space and regular daily living. Sunlit surroundings and perfect ventilation contribute to delightful ambiences that promote well-being and comfort.

Anti-sinuous was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2018 in the category of Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design. This prestigious award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The design of Anti-sinuous integrates industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings, ultimately contributing to a better world.
